Gemological workshops on the study of amber, some natural resins and their imitations

The aim of the course is to familiarize participants with the characteristics of Baltic amber, its imitations and other fossil resins.

During the course, participants will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge on the following topics:
- Baltic amber testing methods: macro and microscopic evaluation in visible and ultraviolet light as well as mid-infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The tests use a spectrometer equipped with a total attenuated reflection (ATR) attachment with a diamond crystal,
- physical and chemical properties of Baltic amber,
- classification of the amber raw material MSB,
- they will learn more about the deposits, places of occurrence and methods of extracting Baltic amber,
- inclusions in Baltic amber,
- methods of processing and modification of Baltic amber,
- Baltic amber imitations.

The course will be practical and theoretical.

The workshop will be provided in English
