Ewa Wagner-Wysiecka

2015-01-01

This year, the selection had to be made from among as many as seven nominees with remarkable qualifications and merits in voluntary work (in alphabetical order): Paweł Adamowicz, Janusz Fudala, Giedrius Guntorius, Heidemarie Herb, Agnieszka Klikowicz, Barbara Kosmowska-Ceranowicz, Ewa Wagner-Wysiecka. And yet as many as 2/3 of the Award Committee voted for Dr hab. inż. Ewa Wagner-Wysiecka.

Ewa Wagner-Wysiecka is a researcher and lecturer at the Gdańsk University of Technology, Department of Chemistry and Technology of Functional Materials (previously Department of Chemical Technology). Her remarkable talent, industriousness and a wide range of interests led to impressive scholarly achievements at a very young age. Five years after her master’s degree, she obtained her doctor’s degree and in 2013 she habilitated as Dr hab. inż. Ewa Wagner-Wysiecka.

When 10 years ago an agreement was established between the Gdańsk University of Technology and the International Amber Association (IAA), which allowed amber to be researched scientifically through the IAA, Ewa Wagner-Wysiecka was the actual implementer of this agreement. The effect was not only practical, leading to the most reliable amber test certificates, but also far reaching. By introducing the subject of fossil resins to the permanent sphere of her academic research, here in Gdańsk, a city of amber tradition and the related know-how, a centre for reliable scientific research on amber has been established.
