Mariacka Street Festival: Mariacka Goes Dancing

The International Amber Association and the MTG SA Gdańsk International Fair Co. invite you to dance in Mariacka Street on 8 September 2018, the final day of Ambermart. It is already the ninth edition of the Festival.

There is a wealth of events are on the agenda. We begin earlier than usual this year, at 12:00, with book meetings at the Gdańsk Branch of the Voivodship and Municipal Public Library, where we will be looking for dance motifs at the National Reading of Stefan Żeromski’s The Coming Spring (Przedwiośnie), we will listen to poetry and stories to a beat. Wearing dace-themed make-up (Word Hunters), we will visit the Jackiewicz Gallery, Paulina Binek Atelier, Moja Forma Gallery, Civitas Christiana Gallery, Janusz Dembowski Atelier, Gdańsk Armenia House and Tołkin Atelier. At art previews, you will see dancing paints and amber in paintings and jewellery. The Habrat Gallery will deliver glass engraving workshops. Maja Gasperowicz will make dance-themed jewellery with you. The Archaeology Museum will offer you a climb up the tower of the Gdańsk Research Society Building (Dom Przyrodników) and workshops with the Pruszcz Gdański Faktoria Culture Park. The Gdańsk Foundation will get rigging, ships and sea stories dancing. Walking up and down Mariacka Street, you will see dance through the lens of Marcin Wasyluk and drawings by Jerzy Głuszek.

An Armenian band’s colourful costumes will twirl in Mariacka. Our eyes will dance along to the dance demonstrations by the Gdańsk Ballet School and the Blitz Group, which will present a dancing battle. Oliwia Otto and Jarek Chojnacki will dance the tango to music written especially for the day. We will spin around with Evela and Filip at the Bachata dance workshop with Dance Atelier. El Viaje Flamenco is a dance show accompanied with the guitar and vocals. As each year, we will dance at a jazz concert: this year with Rama 111 and Daniel Ziomko, graduate of the Gdańsk Academy of Music, who will dance on the piano keys, brought to you by the Fryderyk Chopin Society. At nightfall, when dusk brings out the beautifully lit townhouses, saxophonist Irek Wojtczak will get us going with his Solo for Mariacka Street. The fashion and jewellery show by Magda Arłukiewicz/ Aleksander Gliwiński with the Resistance collection, will certainly captivate us with both its form and message.

The Street’s atmospheric colourful lighting will be provided by Grupa Profit.

The Mariacka Street Festival is a fixture among Gdańsk events and, each year, one of the most beautiful streets of Gdańsk attracts crowds of visitors. Join us and come dancing!
