We invite you to the opening of the exhibition “The Alchemist’s Sister”, which will take place on March 27 at 8:00 PM at MSB Gallery in Gdańsk, as part of Amberif Spring 2026.

The exhibition “The Alchemist’s Sister” is a solo show by Kelly McCallum from the United Kingdom, winner of the MSB Award at the Amber Trip 2025 competition.

Kelly McCallum is a multidisciplinary artist working in jewelry, sculpture, applied arts, painting, and works on paper. Her practice explores natural history, narrative, and storytelling. Her works have been exhibited worldwide, from the Victoria & Albert Museum in London to galleries across Europe, North America, and Korea.

The series “The Alchemist’s Sister” presents an extraordinary world on the border between archaeology, fantasy, and the imagination of a mad scientist. The artist combines noble pieces of Baltic amber with fragments and production leftovers, abolishing any hierarchy of materials.

Insects, flowers, seeds, and mysterious objects create a dense and fascinating universe, which each viewer must discover and interpret for themselves. Every detail provokes questions about meaning and the limits of imagination.

As curator Giedymin Jabłoński writes:

“As with many of McCallum’s works, these pieces provoke viewers to question their meaning. Insects – both in their original form and transformed into intricate flowers, seeds, and flower-like shapes made of multicolored crushed resin, forming a kind of thicket – invite viewers to uncover the hidden stories within them. Alongside them, skulls of small mammals and other tiny objects seem to acquire significant meaning. It is the viewer’s imagination that completes the details and gives sense to the metaphors contained in these mysterious objects.”
