The Award Committee decided to grant the statuette of the Amber Personality of the Year 2008 to Dr Regina Kramarska, a person who is uniquely dedicated to efforts in support of the Polish amber industry. In its justification, the Committee emphasised that Dr Kramarska is an experienced geologist and a specialist in amber deposits in Poland and its neighbouring countries. Her work led to a 2008 study on the prospects of utilising Polish amber resources in order to determine the ways the industry can become independent of raw amber supplies from the Russian Federation and the Ukraine in the future.
