Cooperation of the IAA with the Philetic Museum in Jena

2024-04-22

We are very pleased that the cooperation of the MSB with scientific institutions produces measurable results.

In 2022, the International Amber Association signed an agreement with the Phyletisches Museum in Jena, under which tests of samples sent by the Museum are carried out at the MSB Amber Laboratory.

We encourage you to read the article "Et latet et lucet: Discoveries from the Phyletisches Museum amber and copal collection in Jena, Germany", which presents the results of research conducted at the MSB Laboratory.

The Phyletic Museum, founded by Ernst Haeckel, is a unique institution in the world. Not only is it a natural history museum, but from the very beginning it has been a place dedicated to illustrating the development of life. Its main areas of interest are phylogeny and evolutionary theory, while it also celebrates the meeting of art and nature. The museum is part of the Institute of Systematic Zoology and Evolutionary Biology, which is part of the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena. The museum has rich zoological and paleontological collections, numbering over 500,000 specimens, and the history of the collection dates back to the 18th century.
